Nice set looks good and does a good job cutting threats. For using it from time to time it works just fine for me and I have not no issues with breaking or anything like that.

This is the best hobbyist grade set I've found on Amazon. It compares directly to very similar sets costing twice as much and delivers performance of much more expensive sets for non-pro use. Yes, "non-pro" is difficult to define. But if you only need the occasional thread chased or hole tapped, this set is all you need. (On the other hand, if you need to do actual, regular machining tasks and you're looking to save some money -- you REALLY need to save up and buy pro tools. You won't get there wasting your money a bit at a time on hobby-grade.) The machining on the taps and dies is clean and crisp. I inspected each piece and didn't find any crunchy bits worth noting. The handles are just ok -- I've broken tap handles of this type before. The T-handle is an exception as it is quite solidly constructed. The handles are easily addressed by buying higher quality stand-alone handles for this set. I noted several negative reviews based on the case and, yes, it is basic quality. But the seller is apparently listening because they have more/less exactly followed one reviewer's recommendation to add a piece of layered foam to hold the taps in place when the lid is closed. It works well and, although the taps all lay loose in their 'slots' (it's really a tray as there is no retention at all), none move when the lid is closed. (FWIW: I recommend hot gluing the provided foam insert to the lid so its not floating around when open.) I do wish the slots gripped the bits as they are subject to jumping out if the case is tilted/knocked while the lid is open. But look, these are minor nits on what is otherwise a surprisingly well machined set -- and a great value at this price.If you're not a pro, my advice is buy this set, replace the handles when ready and replace any heavily used taps or dies with high quality when you wear one out. In this way you minimize investment on a set full of pieces you're unlikely to ever use and you can focus additional money on quality exactly where you need it. Recommended. (Just be careful not to drop that case!)

just got it today.1. the metric Thread Pitch Gauge is defective/toothless, under 1.2. no twist drill bits. I guess that's common.3. SAE 1/8 twist drill works perfectly for M4. SAE 3/16 twist drill probably works perfectly for M3 (untested). I don't like them so loose like when using the matched twist bits anyway, so that's a good deal.

Have used once thus far, its worked great. I had a m5 screw hole that came from the factory not threaded and I used this kit to put threads in said hole on a 1/4" thick steel flange on a CNC machine. I had a threaded hole in less than 5 minutes. I matched the threads of the screw for that hole with the proper M5 tap ( there were 2 different thread types for M5). I inserted into the handle and away we went.

Amazing amount of taps and dies with surprising high quality for very low cost. I don’t know how in the heel they can do it? Pay the employees in rice only?

This was an odd item. The metal case came extremely well packed with dessicant and even a free carabiner (what is it with carabiners as a gift item anyway?). The box contained a huge set of tap drill bits that all appear to be extremely well made.The metal torque bar, however? Could not screw onto the the shaft of the tap drill bit and lock it in place. it appeared that it was snug, but as soon as you turn the torque wrench, the drill bit starts sliding inside the groove and won't maintain a tight fit. So you can potentially start carving a channel for your screw... but then when you try and reverse direction, the bit is stuck in the wood/plastic and won't come free.I had to get an adjustable crescent wrench to grip the shaft and try and work it out.Quite surprised, since this appears to be otherwise a very well-made set.

These work quite well for my current needs. I am finally getting to the 55 years of accumulated saving of all sorts and sizes of nuts, bolts, screws and washers of all types and sizes so I can separate and store them, so I don't continue to waste all sorts of time looking for the size and type of fastener I need at that moment. I have saved many bolts and nuts by chasing and cleaning threads and even repairing many of the bolt ends so they can be used again instead of just being kept for use as fillers when welding and stuff like that. I have already salvaged/saved enough bolts and nuts to pay for the cost of the Tap and Die set, so I am happy with the whole purchase. Many of the oldest bolts and nuts were my grandfather's so they have a special meaning to me as I rehabilitate them and use them to rehabilitate some of the old tools, etc., he left me when he passed. Have remembered good memories of him and our relationship long passed while working on the nuts, bolts and tools he used for fifty years before I was even born. None of it is truly valuable in the greater scheme of things, but they are priceless to me as I am 76 and he was born in 1901.
