This thing taught me how sharpening works (finally!)
It's pretty great for the price, but using it exactly as instructed isn't really possible unless you are ambidextrous. What it did do, however, is teach me the mechanics of sharpening when so many YouTube videos and online articles failed — my sense is it's one of those things that you won't know how to do until you can feel/see "what good looks like." Sort of like driving stick shift... I kept stalling the car until my dad said "keep the engine sound on the same pitch the whole time you let out the clutch" (I'm a musician), and suddenly it clicked. Something about this sharpener made sharpening click for me finally in a similar way.

Easy to use knife sharpener
Not a professional sharpener, just needed something to put a sharp edge to my kitchen and pocket knives.Like the compact system that is easy to set up and store when not needed. Simple process to follow to put a decent edge on a knife. Essentially set the angle and hold your knife perpendicular and draw the knife lightly along and down the stone from heel to point. A few light strokes on the left and right stone “pyramid” and you obtain a reasonably sharp edge as you progress through the grits.Have not used the serrated stone rod yet so can’t comment on its effectiveness.I have found that it requires you to use both hands, switching between right and left to hold the knife and alternating the opposite hand to rest on the top of the “pyramid “ to steady the stones. The magnets are not strong enough to maintain the angle especially if you are putting too much pressure on your knife draw without that downward forceMy knives are in good shape and just need an edge touch up. I would not feel this sharpener would work effectively on severely damaged or completely dull edges.

Whether I'm working with a delicate fillet knife or a hefty chef's knife, this sharpener handles them all with finesse. The design of the sharpener is sleek and intuitive. I appreciate the clear instructions that come with it, making setup and operation a breeze. Even if you're not a seasoned sharpener, you'll find it easy to get consistent, razor-sharp results every time. One of the standout features for me is the variable speed motor. It gives me the flexibility to adjust the sharpening process based on the type of blade I'm working with, ensuring optimal sharpening without overheating or damaging the knife. The versatility of this sharpener is unmatched. It's not just for kitchen knives; I've successfully sharpened outdoor knives, scissors, and even garden tools with fantastic results. Very Good Compact and Portable Sharpening System
This compact and easily portable system has three sharpening surfaces. There are coarse and medium diamond grit surfaces. No identifying marks on them but they are readily identifiable visibly and by touch. There is a third surface that is ceramic. I found that the range from coarse to fine ceramic is all that is needed for most any knife sharpening job.The three surfaces rotate. They do not lock in position which is a good thing. You can adjust the rotation to fit your hand and individual preference. There is enough resistance to hold the rotating surfaces in your desired position. If you find the sharpening grit surfaces are moving, you are applying too much pressure to the inner or outer surface. Not a good thing. The blade of your knife should be flush with the surface of the sharpening surface and then it will not pressure the sharpening surfaces to rotate.Using the coarse surface, I was able to restore the blade of an old beat up folding knife. In most cases where your knife is still in reasonably good shape, you will only need to use the medium diamond grit and the ceramic to get your favorite knife sharp as a razor.Perhaps the best feature of this device is the ability to choose your desired angle without fuss or complication. You can choose 15°, 17.5°, 20°, 22.5° or 25°. These angles will cover everything from your delicate Japanese kitchen knives to wide angled outdoor knives! Most of my Asian kitchen knives or at 15°. My German knives were made at 20° but I have modified them to 17.5°. My larger outdoor knives I keep at 20°. So this little sharpener covers a lot territory for me.Reviewers have complained about the rod being pushed off the magnets while sharpening. This will not happen if you are properly moving the knife vertically down the sharpening surface with normal pressure. (Don't push too hard as it is not necessary and makes it hard to maintain your chosen sharpening angle.) If you still have problems keeping the rods in the magnets, just put your opposite hand on the top of the rods. This is a great tool. Well designed. With a little practice you can keep your knives razor sharp. Remember it is a whole lot easier to keep your knives sharp with regular touch ups on a steel rod or a ceramic surface (like the one on this tool) than it is to restore a knife that is dull and that will barely cut butter on a warm day!I use other tools, many steels and ceramic rods and power tools including belt sharpeners for major sharpening jobs. However, I think I could use this one little Work Sharp Benchtop Angle Set Knife Sharpener - Ken Onion Edition to maintain and repair most any of my many kitchen and outdoor knives. I bought for its compact size and portability but I am pleasantly surprised that it outperforms its size and price.
