This is a good, basic workmate. It is light but strong despite that. It folds well and hangs on my workshop wall very tidily. It has a metal framework, cleverly designed and made to take quite heavy items and withstand hard work. The jaws are made of a tough bamboo and seem really durable. I did have a more expensive model that allowed the jaws to be adjusted in parallel by just using one handle but .. that was it’s weakness in that the plastic tape that equalised the opening / closing function wasn’t very strong.Delighted with this. So much so, I bought one for my son!

The good, the bad and, sometimes, the uglyThis review is based on my personal opinions gleaned as a result of decades of experiences in a professional occupation, using firearms for close to fifty years, outdoor pursuits, DIY, as a consumer, a property owner and raising a family.REVIEWThis Black and Decker 536 is sold As a prime item through Amazon at a cost of £39.40 (August 2017)Includes delivery for prime membersPrime items come with a promise of next day delivery.You cannot rely on the next day delivery promise.There is no indication as to any potential additional postage charges for non prime members.The bench was delivered quickly.The instructions with the bench are useless. The diagrams do not have enough detail to make it at all easy to work out what is what.Fortunately, I have had a number of such benches over the years and a lot of practical experience in assembling all manner of equipment.It is not absolutely essential to have a third hand but it will make assembly substantially easier.The bench itself is reasonably well made althoughthe finish is not as clean as I would like it to beSeveral of the parts of the metallic legs are deeply scratched and have sharp edges.The springs on the closing part of the bench are very thin, lightweight and I have NO confidence that they will last.I believe they will be the first item to fail on the bench.The "legs" which make the bench dual height snap into place firmly but are reliant on plastic components which are also likely to fail due to wear and tear.The "vice" will do it's job to hold some items.The plug in plastic holders are also of a lesser quality than those I have had with B&D benches in the past.Bear in mind that they are a hardened plastic which have No padding and likely to mark wood and the design is such that work, unless very shallow will not be held in place for anything rigorous.Sanding or planing as examples, especially with power tools.The bench is however stable enough to use with appropriate clamps to allow completion of such jobs.Overall, the bench will do its basic job. The adjustable height is handy if you want to work on a taller item but not starting at floor level.This, at Amazon was the best value I could find.I hope that this review has been of assistance to you the potential buyer. Great thing to use very strong and effective

Like most of my older generation, I have had a trusty workmate for 25-30 years. Although still perfectly usable, I decided to give it a dignified retirement and spend £69 on a WM626. Based on the theory that in the past products were made to a quality, whereas now they are simply made to a price, and most other reviews saying it is very flimsy, requiring full assembly, with indecipherable instructions, my expectations were not that high.Contrary to the above, the whole frame was fully assembled, and a bag containing a dozen or so parts was all that needed self assembly. The instructions could have been understood by a strategically shaved monkey, why would you write a paragraph explaining how to insert a bolt into a hole, when a picture of a bolt with an arrow pointing to the hole is quite sufficient. The assembly took no more than ten minutes, and this included drinking a cup of tea.The pressed steel metal frame was more than sturdy enough, and although possibly marginally thinner gauge than my previous workmate, would be more than adequate for all household tasks.I cannot understand why anyone would want a workmate in the first place if they could not get their head around a few simple self assembly parts. They are quite obviously not cut out for DIY.In conclusion, for £69 more than happy with this product.

If it lasts 60 years like the last one it will be well worth the money.
