Good tool for starting Panel Pins

I lone using panel pins, except when stating them off, as no matter how careful you are you always end up hitting your finger... ouch !In the past I have used a small pair of pliers to hold the panel pin, but it is very 'fiddley' and time consuming, especially of you have 30 panel pins to put in.This is the first time I have used a device specifically for this purpose and I am very pleased with its performance so far (40 panel pins in first use), only time will tell if it proves to become a 'keeper', but 5 stars so far.

OK as an ocassional use tool

Works fine but I'd say for occasional use only. This is my 2nd one as the nail tube is plastic and tends to wear / split. The tube can be hacksawed to cut off the split but it happens again. Splitting tube is downside - value for money is the upside.

The tool is ok, but does not set thinner pins straight

great tool

Worked well putting in pins to hold glazing strips, saved a lot of sore fingers and damage to glass.Only neede to go round with pin punch to drive pins fully home.Great tool

A disappointing choice

I purchased this for the specific purpose of driving "Challenge" 15mm moulding pins about 5-7mm into wooden picture frames. Actually two purposes, I'd lost my previous tool and to find that I used my usual trick of buying a replacement which normally causes the original to immediately pop up (it worked this time too, turned out my wife had borrowed it but "forgotten" to tell me.) The original tool has a steel tube/barrel with a bore of just over 2mm. This works fine. The Draper tool has a plastic tube/barrel (call me stupid - I hadn't realised that) with a bore closer to twice that. This matters because that small difference allows the pin you're pushing to keel over and maybe bend and in so doing, damage the soft plastic bore so widening it and making it worse. Foolishly I persisted so by the time it had dawned on me (after pinning two cardboard artist's panels into their frames ) the tool was damaged beyond returnable condition. I have no idea what this tool's intended purpose is - clearly many people have found it satisfactory - but if you're looking to "push" 1mm diameter moulding pins this is NOT the tool you need

Handy tool!

I bought this pin pusher when I needed to nail into the centre of a concave curve when to use a hammer would have caused damage to the sides. My only gripe is that the hole is quite large as I want to use a narrower pin and hide the nailheads. This tends to cause my smaller pins to “rattle around” a bit, which can make it awkward to control. I looked for one with a smaller hole when I ordered but this one seems to be the only size - or have I missed something?

A rubbish design, plastic pin holder bends immedeately

A useless design pin holder is plastic so distorts immediately it is used. Do not buy this tool, get a pin push instead with a brass pin holder
