Solid Budget Alternative to the Elite Controller

I had an Elite Series 2 controller that I loved and used for a while—until my 2-year-old got ahold of it and broke it. I was looking for a cheaper alternative that had paddles (since I’m used to them) and no stick drift, but I didn’t want to spend top dollar again since I don’t game as much anymore. After some research, I found this GameSir controller and figured I’d give it a try. I’ll be honest—I wasn’t super hopeful at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. It feels light, but the buttons are sturdy, and I haven’t had any stick drift issues so far.Eventually, the wire gave me trouble (possibly from rolling it up frequently), but I reached out to GameSir support and they sent me a replacement cable within a few days. Works like new again. If you’re looking for a solid, affordable alternative to the Elite with back buttons and reliable performance, I’d definitely recommend this one.

Removable front plate, great performance

Very good controller and was great, it recently died and stopped connecting with any wire I used, so I bought another one! This time I didn't realize they came in different colors and got the same controller but in blue! The joysticks are incredibly smooth and great too use, the buttons feel good and have good resistance, the front plate is also removable which helps you when you need to clean it, as far as I'm concerned this would be a god tier controller if it wasn't for the cable wire connection. Even before it died it was still spotty.

My new favorite controller! Get an unpowered USB hub to use longer USB exension cables.

Excellent controller! My new favorite controller with my Xbox Series X. Read on as I compare this controller to others I've had and also how to successfully extend the cord length.Playing FPS games, I've gone through 3 official Microsoft Xbox controllers. Each developing stick drift after less than 6 months. I didn't really like the official controllers and I started using PowerA Spectra Infinity wired controllers. I liked the PowerA controllers better as I could set a shorter distance on depressing the two rear trigger buttons and also the inclusion of the custom programmable buttons on the back of the controller. However, I went through a few of these controllers too as they also developed stick drift after a number of months. The PowerA controllers have an app so I could try and calibrate the worn out sticks. This was only a temporary fix as it would decrease responsiveness of the sticks and they would eventually drift further.I've now bought this GameSir G7 SE Wired Controller. It is GREAT! Right out of the box the sticks have no drift. Excellent responsiveness and control. It has the two programmable back buttons and through the GameSir Nexus app, on my Xbox, I was able to set the rear triggers to be hair triggers.Everything is good, EXCEPT I needed more cable length. With my old PowerA controllers I was using a 9.8 feet USB 3.0 extension cable with no problem. That same cable extension would NOT work with my new GameSir G7 SE plugged into it.This led to experimentation. I had a 3.3 feet USB 2.0 extension cable and it worked fine plugging it into the Series X and then plugging the GameSir G7 SE's cable into that USB extension. However connecting two 3.3 feet USB 2.0 extension cables together and then the GameSir G7 SE cable did NOT work. I had a single 6.5 feet USB 2.0 extension cable that I tried. Also did NOT work. Here comes the interesting part: ADDING A NON-POWERED USB HUBAdding a non-powered USB hub allowed me to use longer extension cables with this controller. So my current setup is: Xbox Series X > non-powered USB hub > 6.5 feet USB 2.0 extension cable > GameSir G7 SE Controller cable > Controller.I was also able to get the longer 9.8 feet USB 3.0 extension cable to work, but it needed to be in the following order: Xbox Series X > 9.8 feet USB 3.0 cable extension > non-powered USB hub > GameSir G7 SE Controller cable > Controller. All seems to work well with the extension cables, including with a wired headset being plugged into the GameSir G7 SE controller.USB extension cables I've tested:Amazon Basics USB-A 2.0 Extension Cable, 3.3 feet = Works without needing a USB hub.2x Amazon Basics USB-A 2.0 Extension Cables connected together, (3.3 feet each, 6.6 feet connected together) = Works, but needs a USB hub before or after the extension cables.Amazon Basics USB-A 2.0 Extension Cable, 6.5 feet = Works, but needs a USB hub before or after the extension cable.Amazon Basics USB-A 3.0 Extension Cable, 9.8 feet = Works, but needs a USB hub AFTER the extension cable. (Xbox > Extension Cable > USB Hub > GameSir G7 SE cable > controller)USB Hubs tested and working:Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, Ultra-Slim Data USB Hub with 2 ft Extended Cable, Model: AK-A7516012 (A7516)Insignia USB 2.0 4-Port Hub, Model: NS-PCH5420An old "Xtreme Tech" USB 2.0 Hub from Five BelowMy guess is other non-powered USB hubs may work too.If this controller keeps working as well as it does now, and lasts longer than 6 months, I'm going to be very pleased!

Decent quality for the price

Been rather content with my purchase, overall, but there are a few things I think could be improved.I've noticed the audio socket doesn't seem to have the highest durability/ reliability. At first I only noticed a slight issue with my microphone not always working properly (apparently need to really snug up the plug sometimes), and more recently when I looked inside the socket itself it appears that there's a piece of metal that looks loose, as if a piece of a plug "contact" within the controller itself has come loose.I've been as gentle as possible with this controller, as I have limited funds. I've tried to keep my headset plugged in as much as possible to prevent any wear and tear from removing the plug and pushing it back into the socket.. So I can only imagine it's a quality control issue, much like some button sensitivity I've already noticed.I play Rocket League on a semi regular basis, and most of my previous controllers have held up quite nicely overall. This one started having some issues with overly sensitive button activation on the left joystick when I'm simply playing the game (most noticeable in Rumble mode of Rocket League since it activates the special abilities when I do NOT want to activate the ability), which has happened with another controller before, but it never happened this quickly.I'll most likely need to do some maintenance cleaning around the buttons, but I'm hesitant since I'm not experienced with it and I'm worried about causing further damage. I'd rather not have more things go wrong with the controller.Overall the controller works just fine and all the other buttons are behaving normally so far.I DO wish the controller was designed with 4 directional buttons in place of 1 solid D pad, but it is what it is. Star Trek Online, it's very easy to hit the D pad in one completely different direction, but the tilt of the D pad also changes my ship's power level settings. It's not a major concern most of the time, but it can be a nuisance occasionally at the wrong time in a battle. I imagine it may become a nuisance in other games, but I don't often need the D pad in most games that I play.Still happy to give 4 stars overall, as 3 just seems too low. The quality of product for the price paid is pretty decent with this controller. If I'd paid twice as much for the same product, I may have been a bit more annoyed.
