A shade lighter is the classic answer, but personally, I prefer a shade closest to my skin color as I not only have dark baggy circles, but red in the dark too. It's really a personal preference and trial and error. Hope this helps.

Q: does this work well on mature eyes without accentuating wrinkles?

I am older and it really seems to smith's out eye wrinkles. I use it in the morning. Just pat it on around your eye. It works well under your makeup.
