Set to become a primary classroom staple for the primary school teacher.

This book just arrived a few days ago and I couldn't wait to flick through! Although the answer book has to be purchased separately (if you want it), the activities provided in this book deal very well with the new curriculum. I was shown the old version of these books and thought it looked really helpful for my maths planning. I have a Year 3/4 class so I bought both books and these will definitely help me to differentiate my lesson planning more easily. The main thing that grabbed my focus was the fact that every single double page has a learning objective (linked to the revised 2014 National Curriculum) and has three differentiated activities for that subject area. A is roughly equivalent to the previous school year and C is roughly equal to that expected in the following year. This said, I do not feel (from what I have seen thus far) that the differentiation goes too far. You could easily photocopy the page you need and then guillotine the strips up for each of your maths groups.I am about to teach data handling, and the provision of discrete and continuous graphs, as well as pictograms, means that I can get these quickly without having to waste time searching the internet. What is also good is that, although topics are naturally repeated in the book for the next year group, the questions are all different, which means that I have now got twice as many different graphs and activities, which will help to provide the class with fresh questions and allow me to move more able year 3s onto the year 4 standard of work.My only fear is that I may become too reliant on these books! They really do look that good, and they are very affordable. Do yourself a favour: save yourself some planning time and get this. I can see myself using it most weeks this school year!

Good

To be fair I think the book look good. But my child haven't used it as much as I wished.

Great! Recommended! (Y3 teacher)

These books are really helpful! It's great how the same task is differentiated on one page and that there is often more than one activity per objective. Used it with my year 3 class from about spring onwards this year. As it stands, with the new curriculum filtering through, I don't expect to be using it as much in the autumn term as some of the tasks may be a little too challenging at the beginning of the year. I will find out in September! The lower ability task usually has more visual aids than the middle/ higher tasks but they aren't as colourful as the old abacus books I also use. (Old curriculum ones, not new curriculum). Great for more able children!

Good for reference, need more exercise

Very good book to follow the topics but it doesn't have many exercises. It would be great to have an accompanying book to practice. We end up using Kumon tests, internet material or self created examples for further practice. Also, it says it is compatible with UK curriculum but I don't see it going very parallel with my daughter's school. Still, good to have a reference as schools don't provide anything.

Brilliant resource

Brilliant resource for studying at home with your child. We love that each page / topic has 3 levels of difficulty. We tend to start at level (b) questions and depending on how my child is doing, he will move onto level (c) questions (harder) or practice some level (a) questions (easier). The book follows the national curriculum. There are no answers in the back so you don't need to rip those out. There is a separate answer book which you can buy on Amazon but for this Year 3 and the Year 4 book we will just work the answers out by ourselves!

Spot on

This was recommended by my sons maths tutor. We used it to revise topics he'd already learnt. It covers the full curriculum and is graded so that you can come back to the same topic at a different level as the child's ability improves. Each page has about 45 questions, there are no "fun" quizzes or activities so it is up to the adult to engage the child. There are a few examples at the beginning of each section, however they are not sufficient to teach the child if it is a new subject and they will require adult guidance.

Excellent book for year 3 children

Excellent book for year 3 children, it has 3 different levels (A. B. C) depending on what level your child feel comfortable to do it.
