The white square looking item that has a cross on the top of it its a life saver, the instructions are so handy and very easy to understand, also you might want to order a cartridge puller, it will save you a ton of headaches and it will be a SUPER HANDY DANDY ITEM, that you'll be so glad you got one and will come in handy from now on! Follow the INSTRUCTIONS CATEFULLY and look up a YOU TUBE video by PASTOR SAM! HIS VIDEO is so easy to follow and fantastic. You won't go wrong !

Q: do they come with screws?

There are no screws included, other than the screw that attaches the knob/handle none are needed. The post is tapped with the same size and thread as the original cartridge, so the screw you removed to take off the handle will fit. Aloha

I purchased this item for a tub/shower application. It worked fine for my application. Do not know if it will work for a m4000 application. Sorry.
