Great replacement tv!This is a nice tv without all the frills. We may add a sound bar later. It has good color and resolution the sound could be better but, for the price point it is great.

I needed a replacement for my old tcl roku I bought in 2019, which I primarily use as a second screen for my laptop/ watch movies or tv shows when going to bed. My first purchase was the vizio 32 inch tv. Immediately had issues with it refusing to get past the activation screen even though I activated it. Figured Id do it later and connected it to my monitor. My god it looked horrible. The letters on my notepad had such bad ghosting that my eyes actually hurt. My live wallpaper looked like a mess. I cant believe that vizio would put out a product that bad. Mustve been defective, but didnt want to risk it. So i returned and decided, might as well go with what I know. So I bought this tv which is a literal upgrade to my old one.Positives:The picture is stunning. Very bright, color accurate.No ghosting when connected to my laptop.Very responsive, no stutteringSmall bezels freed up space on my deskSound is goodNegatives:Same old remote. Although the vizio's picture was atrocious, i really liked the remote. It was bigger and felt more premium than the tclsThe panel (subjective). While standing up (keep in mind I was right next to the tv looking down on it), I noticed my live wallpaper was blown out. After conversing with chatgpt (the thought of explaining this to my 18 year old self always cracks me up), I learned that this tv uses a VA panel, which limits viewing angles. My old 2019 model didnt have this issue, as it used an ips panel. Now it was nowhere near as bad, actually barely noticeable when watching netflix, but absurdly noticeable on my wallpaper. On the other hand, with the va you get better contrast and deeper blacks. So personal preference. I included pictures to show how bad it affected my wallpaper, and how little it affected a tv show.For $150, its 100% worth it. And if you're in the same boat as I was deciding between this and the vizio, get the tcl. Youll thank me later.

The main problem with this TV is that if you lose your remote, you won't be able to watch TV. There are no buttons on this TV to turn it on, change channels, or access a menu. The best advice I can give you is to do what I did... buy an extra remote for the TV. The TV works great if you aim the remote in a certain way to operate it. You have to be precise with your aim. You will get used to it in time. You can't just point in that direction... You have to point it exactly at the TCL emblem on the TV. If you don't, you will spend a lot of time pressing the buttons on the remote with nothing happening, but you will get used to it... eventually.The picture is beautiful. It's sharp and clear, and you don't have a wide rim around the picture. You get 40 inches of picture without the wide trim. I would recommend this TV if you are looking for a clear picture... but get an extra remote along with it.

I actually mistakenly purchased this TV. I thought it was the "Google" TV and realized it was the "Roku" TV after I made the purchase. I already had the TCL 30 inch Google TV but decided I wanted a larger TV for a few reasons. (I really didn't like the remote on the 32 inch and the remote on the 43 inch, which is actually a Google TV, and the 40 inch appeared to be better from the pics.)Glad I made the mistake. The TV arrived and was a breeze to set up. I was still a bit upset because the Google TV at least connected to my Google account seamlessly. Turns out, the TCL Roku TV has a built in app that allows me to connect with my account including my photos to use as a screensaver. The Roku layout is far more streamlined and easier to navigate than the Google TV. Also, the apps I use work much better on this TV and the settings are much easier to navigate on this TV.The picture on this TV is just as good as on the 32 inch. I also purchased the TCL 8211 Series Dolby Atmos soundbar to go with it and am satisfied with how it works with the TV. I am impressed with my two TCL TV's. My tv just stopped...black screen right in the middle of the news. The price was great on this one and it was bigger than the one I was replacing. Brilliant picture, light weight, great sound, easy remote...love it!
