Only Purchase if You are a Tinkerer...Great Fun After Fixin'
Mixed reviews got ya confused?Don't despair if you do decide to purchase this toy and it does not work during a test run while it's still within its packaging. Do not open it, thinking that it's just bad batteries, just let Amazon know and they will hook ya up (via "Returns").Anyway, on ours, it was not faulty due to old batteries. It was just put together by a demented elf. The manufacture date on ours is 08/11, which is pretty recent, so that elf could still be in the vicinity at Toysmith. A wire was pulled out, and a spring was not in properly. Just have a small screwdriver, the tinker fairy, and Crazy Glue handy. The Voices (not the ones in my head):-Low pitch: check.-High pitch: check.-Very low pitch: sounds slightly robotic, not much lower than above low pitch.-Very high pitch: grating, sounds normal with slight robot touch.-Normal and robotic: check.-Low pitch and robotic: check.-Very high pitch and robotic: check.-Amplified normal voice with high pitch: amp'ed normal voice with no discernible high pitch.-Amplified normal voice: same setting as above(?), see above description (same).-Robotic with high pitch: sounds like normal robotic.Has been dropped twice, and is still working great. Four-year-olds can utilize it. Takes a 9-volt battery, which is included. Do not throw out included "paperwork"- voice effect directions are included on said insert.Sample voices in our joint: Him (Powerpuff Girls), Steve Perry, various zombies (re: "Return of the Living Dead"), an eight-year-old horror host, and the character of Jame Gumb(!).

Fun toy
Bought for a gag gift. It’s fun and durable. You have to have your mouth right up to the peak valve though or it doesn’t really catch what you’re saying and sounds kinda noisy.

Broken piece of junk.
I ordered it, since I needed a cheap voice scrambler to use for an epic game of HvZ, in which we have walkie talkies and I wanted to disorient the players. It seemed to be just the thing. I got it in 2 days, that's a 5 star review in my book. When I recieved this, I couldn't get it to work. I thought that, since the battery was shipped inside it, it was just dead. I was annoyed, but decided to buy a 23A battery while I was out. That would drop it from 5 to 3.5 stars right there.Upon inserting the new battery, I was annoyed to find that it still didn't work. Tried flipping the battery around, pulling the trigger harder, switching modes, etc. No effect: 2 stars.I decided to try and open it up, since it's too small and cheap an item to bother with returning, to see if any obvious wires were disconnected or anything. There was a short circuit, and a silicon piece meant to attach to the speaker which was disconnected. I tried to see where everything went, but couldn't get anything to work. I might not be an electronic engineer, but I can usually fix things like this. Not in this case; it was pretty much broken. If I could give a 0 star rating at this point, I would. The only plus side is that the 23A battery contains 8 button cells which I can hold on to, but the actual product never worked.I don't blame the seller, except for the fact that they sold me a piece of crap; I blame shoddy manufacturing. Returning it wouldn't be worth the 8 bucks or the time, I need it too soon to bother anyway. And once I opened it, it can't be returned.Seldom have I been so thoroughly screwed by any product. The manufacturer ought to be beaten with a wooden spoon. If you're looking for a decent toy, try spending around 15$ for a slightly better product. At least I only lost like 8$.
