Surprised At How Effective It Was
NOT FOR WATER STONES!>.. I bought this because I was getting less than great results from my my sharpening stones. I read the information on here, and when it arrived, I opened it and put two or three drops on the stone. I spread it out over the surface, then I took a knife that had been giving me trouble, and casually stroked down the stone. It seemed to glide a little easier than usual, so I said to myself, "OK, maybe this can help." then I did three more strokes, reversed the knife and did four on that side too.>.. I don't usually check that quick, but I got out a bit of paper and sliced it effortlessly!! Well, that WAS DIFFERENT. There was a flat place near the tip that didn't want to cut, so I ran the blade over the stone backwards, drawing the blade back rather than slicing it, and focused a bit on that 'dull' spot. Did the other side, as well. Tested, and now it was all good. Alright!>.. I needed to wipe the stone down to lift off the particles the oil(?) fluid(!) had floated up. That also lightened the stone. Now, that was almost an exciting experience. So I added the fluid to the stone and began sharpening others knives that were not their best. Using the fluid, I was able to get better results faster than without. and, yes, I re-tested some of the knives the old way. Better with the fluid.>.. Two drops seems to work best, spread over the surface of the stone. Three is OK, but too much is too much.>.. No comment on Amazon, their website, or the package as being food safe, so after sharpening, I wipe them down, and food knives get washed and DRIED. Good on Carbon Steel, stainless steel, and patterned steel, and specialty Asian knives with hard steel surrounded by softer steel (isn't REALLY Damascus steel, but they are beautiful knives). All sharpen much easier than they had before. And stay sharper.

Beads up like water
Just sharpened some of my knives with this new oil. It seems to work ok, but the oil beads up like water on a non porous surface. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but all of the honing oils I've used over the years have absorbed into the stones. This oil beads up & rolls right off as soon as I apply a knife edge. I can't really tell if any of the oil is staying on the stone & doing it's job. I've tried rubbing the oil into the stone with my finger before sharpening the knife, but all it does is break up the large water beads into smaller beads. On re-reading the info on the product page, I now realize it's a water based product. I don't understand why they made it a water based oil instead of a petroleum based oil.
